(Day 11, Stamina) Hold the Gate

The rumored secret texts and techniques kept within the Hundred Stances Dojo makes it a tempting target for military action in times of war, so a tower was built to watch for signs of impending attacks.

(Day 11, Stamina) Hold the Gate

Post by Mirumoto Iyoka »

The crash of bodies and makeshift battering rams shakes the great gates, causing the Seppun guardsmen tasked with shoring them up to cry out in pain and distress...

"We must hold them here!" says Mirumoto Iyoka, who seems to have been placed in command of this part of the defense efforts. He turns to the waiting Bayushi Suke and Shiba Danji, who glare at each other for a moment before putting their personal disdain for each other aside. "Collect every able-bodied student we can find to help brace the gate! We'll need every hand we can get."

As the two other sensei rush off to find volunteers, another crash and chorus of dismayed moans sounds from behind him, bringing his attention back to the nearby struggle.

"By the Fortunes, I hope every hand is enough..."

"HAI, MIRUMOTO-SENSEI!"

The cracking shout comes from the lanky Taizo as he reports, assigned blade on his hip, to the authority assigned over him, Mirumoto Iyoka. Yes, he might have followed Matsu Hirotaro, but transfers are tricky at the best of times, and this is not one. And he might have stood to defend the Otomo--but he is still under his sensei's order. The same is true of the library, where he might do some good.

No, he is accustomed to Iyoka's orders, and in the absence of orders to the contrary, he reports there, and he braces himself against the gate as best as his form allows. It may not be much, but it will not be said that he does not pour his full effort into the attempt.

"Ancestors guide us all--to victory!" he shouts, young voice cracking again under the strain.

Mirumoto Kai nodded solemnly at the sensei's instructions, and ran to help brace the gates. The young Dragon's body strained to hold them shut. He recalled the Go puzzle he had solved with Shiba Jiro the previous day. Sometimes one stone, in the right position, is the key.

Glimpsing...things through the forming gaps, Taizo calls out to his classmate "Do you see that?"

Surely, what he means will be clear.

There is little else it could be, after all.

Kai stole a peek through the gates at the throng of enemies outside.

"Who are these people attacking us, anyway?" he asked plaintively. "Surely it's not a peasant revolt - they're much too organized!"

"There's...something...driving them, I think," Taizo replies, voice cracking amid the din. "Some reddened figure I can't place."

Kentaro had taken ill the past few days but when the seige started he went to hold the gates with his fellow students. Though it seemed he still was feeling the effects of his illness, though it was still likely better he showed up even if he couldn't do as much as he would have liked.

Kentaro looks through the gates "I just see a whole lot of angry peasants out there!" He yells back over the clamor
