[D14, EE]Training Never Ends (Open)

As the primary dojo is to be used for classes run by the current sensei and is far too small to house all prospective students and challengers, a secondary area has been set aside for practice. Previous master sensei who have been unseated following a successful challenge may remain on-site to do some teaching in this place, as well.

She could tell Kazu had a larger well, some deeper place that connected him to his surroundings. Maybe it was all that living on mountains?

Did mountains equal peace? Naturists complain about how city folk don't enjoy the outside anymore and complaining didn't seem peaceful, pfft!

Suddenly, Ameiko realized the errant thought might cost her dearly. She had not expected Kazu-kun to rise to the sort of challenge she could present.

Ameiko had tensed, enough to make her lose the match. However, in the course of but a moment, something happened. The daisho rack creaked, loudly, enough that her unfocused and distracted mind was given a jolt and before she knew it she was striking!

She expected to check the swing when Kazu-kun hit her first, but it seemed the daisho rack beat him as well. She stepped past him as she tapped his ribs with her bokken.

Luuckyyyy!

How do we want to do this? Grappling? Best of three passes, rolling to attack but no damage?
Hiroki adopts a very similar stance, his legs a bit more bent lowering his center of gravity some and readied for the lion to attack.

We could just do best of three rolls for jujutsu?

Yakuwari's attention returns abruptly to the Crab he faces, and, as soon as the bigger young man is settled, he rushes in, blindingly swiftly. Perhaps too swiftly, for while his motions are rapid, they seem less effectual than might otherwise be the case, as if he is pulling his blows and hindering himself somehow.

I'm good on best of three.
Using my big-boy stats, since we're all grown-ups now...
Rolling initiative for the lolz: 35, https://orokos.com/roll/885546
Jiujutsu rolls 1, 2, and 3 (considering Contested rather than attack, so no Technique bonuses): 15, 23, and 13, https://orokos.com/roll/885547
Probably not going to need all three...

Hiroki was watching and waiting to draw in the attack. Yakuwari was fast, definitely faster than Hiroki was but the big samurai was faster than he looked and he was able to turn and deflect the first blow but not the second. The lion was clearly skilled and the pair seemed fairly evenly matched but in the end Hiroki used his greater reach and strength to put the lion on the defensive and finish out the match.

Hiroki was breathing a little heavily and a sheen of sweat was beginning to show on his brow, he bowed to his opponent "Well fought Akodo-san, you certainly put me through my paces." he said with a smile as he straightened from the bow.

Yakuwari returns the bow.

"Thank you for the lesson, Hida-san," he says between breaths. "I will remember what I have learned with you."

He looks over to the other pair. "Seems they'll also recall what's been taught."

Kazunosuke knew he had reacted first, but the sudden noise had distracted him for long enough that, when his strike started heading towards Ameiko, he had already felt the slight hit on his ribs - and so he held the bokken before it hit her.

He took a step back, his expression something between confusion, excitement...

... and mirth. He had to hold back a laugh, turning it into a silent chuckle. He had expected to see them both having improved much after their time there - and that was exactly what he saw. He knew he could beat her, if only just - and he knew the young girl was a very talented, and also clearly very skilled opponent.

He bowed to her, respectfully.

"You win again, Bayushi-san", he said, stressing the title - one he knew she now believed she had earned, based on their previous conversations. "This one was happy, if not surprised, to hear Otomo-sama's decision earlier today. You will surely be an accomplished duelist, no doubt - and I'll be honoured to have been the first you have beat as a full-fledged samurai", he said with a smile. "

He then looked at her again, the smile curling a bit in one side of his lips. "Maybe the fortunes will give us a chance to see each other's progress in the future. I'll be happy to meet you again then - hopefully as friends!"
