[Day 13, EE] Curtain call (theatrical influence)

Post by Bayushi Kaukatsu »

And once more, and for the final time, a man opened business at the theatre. A famous man, who inspired a kind of dread that belied his unassuming, simian appearance. Saying little and accompanied by a Yojimbo who spoke even less, Bayushi Kaukatsu waved to open proceedings in the dutiful daughter one last time during Winter court season.
Last chance to grab some Glory via theatrical influence!

Doing so requires a Acting, any Artisan skill, Calligraphy, Games: Sadane, or any Perform skill / appropriate trait roll, TN 20.

Success on the roll earns 1 Glory Point for the character's Faction, plus 1 Glory Point / Raise.

Players are asked to keep an Influence Tracking thread in their Personal Forums, noting Influence attempts and the number and type of points gained: "Day X, [timeslot], [location], Y points [faction name]." (Linking to the influencing post will be appreciated, as well.)

Zoido was wound up tight, looking for a way to relax before committing himself to violent action. So a little practice at the Dutiful Daughter, for a performance. It wasn't very good, a few technical errors. He bowed to the audience, and pushed the drum off stage. Then went to get ready to don his armor.

Eh, why not?

Ginhiko put in her second appearance at the Dutiful Daughter of the season. Again, she had no real goals of knocking it out of the park, and just picked a nice inoffensive little tune about a kitsune and a cat. She just figured she should sing more, as a matter of course.

But since Orokos is a hilarious monstrosity with a questionable sense of humor, she found herself in excellent voice.

[I was looking for a 20 on a 4k3 and figured it for a longshot. I got a 40. +1 Glory point for Ginny's faction!]

He'd been distracted the night before, too busy getting to the bottom of something, and to be brutally honest, his mind wasn't on the game tonight either.

It showed.

Twice he missed cues from the lesser staff of the theatre on his chosen piece celebrating the victory at White Stag. He actually missed out a paragraph of the final speech and compounded the error by delivering the next two in reverse order.

He didn't even realise he'd done it until the silence after he bowed.

The terrible oni from the first day in the theatre was back, dressed in his heavy black silks, covered in designs of brilliant fire through the use of red and golden thread. His hair was hidden underneath one of the rather large and obnoxious red wigs common in noh and his face, or at least half of it, was hidden under a snarling oni mempo. What was revealed of his face was painted in traditional kabuki grease paint, giving him, overall, the appearance of a fierce and strong oni lord. Something that he was, by no means, even close to being.

He stepped out onto the stage at a steady pace and looked around the audience, dark eyes blazing with the rage of a thousand thousand hatreds. "Tch..." He grumbled. "Will no one challenge me? Such a waste..." The great being, though rather short, turned around and started to walk off stage before a mighty ronin took to the stage, stomping his feet to get the attention of the oni lord.

There were no words spoken as the terrible creature turned around to see what the noise was about. The ronin charged forward, bokken in hand. His attack was stopped rather quickly as the oni, known wielder of fans, blocked the weapon with a simple and surprisingly elegant motion, pushing it away with the wooden fan.The ronin seemed stunned and in that moment of opportunity, was jabbed in the side with another fan from the oni, causing him to go flying backwards. He caught his balance some feet away and took a moment to catch his breath before charging once more.

Over and over again, the two clashed while a haunting song on a kotsuzumi played. Fan struck against flesh, bokken against silks. Over and over this intricate dance of death played out between the fierce oni lord and the indomitable ronin. Both were wounded, but neither gave in. Anger and hatred grew in the oni while the ronin seemed to gain a sense of serenity. Neither would give in until the other was dead and while this angered the oni, the ronin seemed to only grow more peaceful, accepting his fate.

Curses and shouts came from the oni, unwilling to accept that he might perish here while the bokken repeatedly came down on his ever weakening defenses. Yet still, the blows didn't go unanswered. The movements of both were becoming slower, less graceful, and more desperate as they came closer to vanishing from this world until finally, bokken and fan met the heart of their opponent.

With one last hit to the drum and an eerie howl from the drummer, the two fell to the ground in a heap of cotton and silk, gone from this world and moving onto wherever they might go next.

After a few moments, the two stood up, bowed, and made their way off stage.
