(LE Day 5) To See and Be Seen (open)

Though this establishment may seem relatively modest and unremarkable, those in the know say much of the skills of the geisha who live here, whose performances are peerless and are well-rounded, interesting conversationalists.

Akihiro arched an eyebrow at the comment, considering a moment. A smile quickly spread across his face. "Does Bayushi-san intend to say there is another layer of meaning to all of this, that the details of the plays are but a distraction? A most fascinating insight..." Seeing Choudai wasn't about to get any further into it, he turned to the actors and the pleasant Shosuro gardener. "Minna-san? Perhaps I have missed the forest for the trees, so to speak." Despite the admission, he seemed rahter pleased to discuss further. "So what could it be, the deeper truth of the piece?"

Hanaru watched the mini performance, equally rapt. She'd been a fan for quite a few years now.

She refrains from pronouncing her years of fandom by attempting to focus on the actual discussion. In her excitement, she just manages to hold back from her own answer, not wanting to interrupt the Imperial's questions. Look at her, she holds the focus of the room with all the effort of breathing...

Arata chuckles.

"That Euiko's an excellent manipulator." he rejoins. "She married me for status, and seduced Tsuguhara to have his dueling skills at her beck and call, and yet a few words, a little remorse and regret, and even Miya-sama is ready to consider that she is deserving of forgiveness."

Kaito grins.

"In her defense.....I am very good looking." is his iron-clad answer.

To be fair, he was.

He laughed at that, taking care not to show his teeth in polite company, even in the relaxed atmosphere. "Perhaps not quite forgiveness, but Euiko had to be rather convincing to take so many others on her path... I found Bayushi-san's suggestion intriguing, especially as many have spoken of a common theme uniting all of the plays put on so far."

Hanaru's teacup twists back and forth in her hands, the only sign of some underlying nerves conversing among her betters. "Forgiveness seems a little far. We'd need to see where her path went for that, right? Hanaru glances toward the actress as she speaks. "I mean, your presentation feels like a clear trade of desire for regret. But that changes nothing without some way to purify both sins. I kind of like to think her forceful pursuit of desire would carry through the swap and she'd pursue regret to an honorable end."

She shrugs slightly, "Neither end changes the cautionary tone the overall play holds about abandoning duty and the right order of things, though, does it?" Hanaru tilts her head slighly, definitely not looking at the Bayushi. "Getting both her husband *and* her lover on board with her schemes? She is such a force to reckon with! Channeling that kind of charisma in proper directions would be powerful...but maybe that's a different play someone else wrote."

Tamiko nods.

"It's what makes being in the theater such a treat. Everyone here understands the importance of Duty. No one here is plotting some grand scheme to disrupt their daimyo's plans...that we know of. But I believe there is value in exploring these ideas. A lot of importance is attached to one's position. The easy honorable answer is that no one would give any thought to losing their position like this. Your lord's commands are just, and if they deem you unworthy of your rank then you should accept that. But how many ronin among the waves do not desire more for themselves? Are simply continue to drift through life barely higher than a peasant? This desire could drive them to acts both great and terrible, but would they then be unworthy of their new position?"
